Nathan A. Shaman

Nathan A. Shaman is of counsel to Lake, A.P.C. and focuses primarily on civil litigation, particularly civil rights cases. His practice also includes criminal defense, entity formation, and other miscellaneous matters. Mr. Shaman is admitted to practice law in the State of California and the District Court for the Southern District of California. He is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.


Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Shaman graduated cum laude from Cleveland's Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science in physics. While there, Mr. Shaman also extensively studied Hebrew and was an active member and leader in the local chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity.


Before graduating from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2010, Mr. Shaman interned with the San Diego County Public Defender. While there, he gained valuable insight into the criminal justice system and criminal defense practice. Mr. Shaman also clerked for the late Judge Napoleon Jones, Jr. of the Southern District of California, during which time he became familiar with the inner workings of the federal courts.  For the last year of school, Mr. Shaman clerked for Ryan Mercaldo & Worthington LLP where he became intimately familiar with civil litigation, participating in a broad range of discovery and law and motion work.


While attending the University of San Diego School of Law, Mr. Shaman received various honors including Outstanding Oral Advocate and the highest grades in the class for Constitutional Law I and Energy Law and Policy.  He was also an Inaugural Member and Editor for the Journal of Climate and Energy Law.


In his personal and professional life, Mr. Shaman is defined by his strong, unwavering advocacy of civil rights, environmental justice, and animal rights.
